What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday June 27th WOYWW

A great big hello to my WOYWW friends.   Thanks for stopping by you fabulous snoops!

Today my desk is mostly clean, I say mostly because even though I washed it off and scrapped it with a credit card to get off the worse lumps and glumps of glue and paint many affectionately stay around and that's just fine by me.

Off to the left is a WIP.  I drew a cat and cut out a stencil from Mylar notebook divider I had lying around.  Then I flipped over a 9 X 12 canvas that had been stretched over a wood frame and adhered interesting bits of paper and some rusty bolts I had salvaged.  Anyway that's as far as I've gotten with it.  I haven't decided the final direction or color, I just knew that I wanted the salvaged bits to be sort of a shadowbox behind the silhouette of the kitty.  I'll post it again as it comes further along.

My proud accomplishment of the week was completing the Chigirie (Torn Paper) Pop Art Pet Portrait commission that I've been working on for weeks.  My client squealed with delight and superlatives, there is such an amazing sense of satisfaction when a commission goes over so well.  You always hope your vision and your clients will meet in a happy place.  This particular client was so fantastic because she completely abdicated the project to my discretion, a truly joyful experience.

Anyway here is Zoe:

I've been fortunate to have a steady stream of commissions and have another waiting in the wings, this is Henry.

Doesn't he have the most delightful face? My new client also wants the Pop art style.  I'm looking forward to working on it but today I'm taking the day off and maybe tomorrow too as I like just a bit of time to clear my head between each piece that I create.

Hey all you U.K. friends, are you excited about the Olympics starting in your country soon?  Anyone live nearby?  How fun!

As always a very special thanks to our host Julia Dunnit from Stamping Ground for hosting this fabulous peek into each others lives.

Lovely artwork as always - and so unusual, you are the only torn art artist I know of.
Am interested to see how that cat turns out.
Thanks so much for sharing - Hugs, Neet #21 - xx

I recall years back that "tear bears" (bears paper pieced from torn mulberry paper) were all the rage. I always hated them (too cutesy for me) but what YOU do is pure art and I love it. Always a joy to pop by your blog and see what you are working on. And OMG - my craft mat is horrible. There is one 6 x 6 square in the lower left (where I usually seem to work while the rest is covered in supplies) that is just disgusting. No amount of scrubbing or scraping helps. I just buy a new one every so often :)

Happy WOYWW

Well, that's a good use for a credit card!! Hope it's helped...
I adore the look on Henry's face, quite thoughtful, he's nobody's fool, I think. Your fantastic art will just be the perfect medium to capture his character!

Great Art there, you are very talented. Yep quite excited about the Olympics, in fact just done an Altered Book spread depicting them! The torch comes quite close on 20th July so we hope to see that and the road cycle race is over part of the route my Dh takes each week so we might just pop along to see some of that too. Thanks for stopping by BJ#4

Amazing work! Yes I'm looking forward to the Olympics, but will be watching on tv like the rest of the world. Some countries are based at a training camp near me but the rest is too far away. Hey ho will see more on tv! Take care, enjoy this week's snooping extravaganza! Zo xx 74

I'm currently disillusioned by all the politics and sponsorship, not to mention worry over the opening ceremony. Britain is so much more than fields and sheep! But I'm sure the sport will be amazing when it starts!

I hope you found it very satisfying to clear and clean your desk.

cheers, rachel #68

Hey Robin! Lovely pet portraits! I especially like the ear done with starry paper, that's fab....

You asked if anyone lived near the Olympics - I don't, but I was brought up there, and my Mum still lives there. The main Olympic village is just 10 mins away by car from her house, and she'll be able to hear all the cheering! The Olympic torch goes along the main street on the 21st July, and we're thinking of going to stay that weekend to watch it.

Thanks for stopping by.

Looking forward to seeing how the cat turns out, I don't think I have seen one of your cat pieces! great to hear how happy your client was on the finished piece. Now i hate to be a grammer police, but you might want to change "got" to "get" up on your blog header :) I know, I'm horrible but I just noticed it! waving the #49 from the hills of North Carolina :)
